Head of Global Emerging Markets with responsibility for formulating combined equity, debt and currency strategies, Rob Drijkoningen leads a global team conducting research and engaging in trading, portfolio management and strategy development in emerging markets worldwide.
In addition to this leadership role, he has direct responsibility for Central and Eastern European third-party mandates. With both buy- and sell-side experience, an extensive background in macroeconomic and monetary policy, and a successful track record building and managing a range of funds, Rob is a widely recognised expert in emerging market investment strategies.

With more than twenty years of experience in financial markets, he joined ING Investment Management in 1995, first managing international fixed income portfolios, including management of currency risks, before being named Global Head of the Emerging Markets Debt team in 1997.
He later led ING IM’s Multi-Asset Group in Europe, overseeing strategies in asset classes including fixed income, equities, real estate and commodities, before being appointed to his current position.
Rob is a native of the Netherlands and is fluent in Dutch, German and English, having lived and worked in London for several years earlier in his career. With numerous awards from Lipper, Morningstar and S&P, he is an acknowledged expert in emerging market debt and a frequent media commentator, authoring or having been interviewed for a number of articles for German, Swiss, French and Dutch newspapers, and appearing regularly on CNBC, Bloomberg TV and Dutch radio.
Rob earned a degree in Economics from Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 1988, with specialisations in monetary and macroeconomic analysis.
