Gilbert Van Hassel, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ING IM

Main responsibilities: CEO of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia, and Board Member of ING Insurance EurAsia N.V.
Previous work experience: Gilbert was appointed CEO of ING IM Europe in 2007 and global CEO of the ING IM business in 2009. Prior to joining ING, Gilbert had an international career with JP Morgan Asset Management. He was Managing Director and Global Head of Technology and Operations of JP Morgan Asset Management in New York, Global Head of Fixed Income for JP Morgan Asset Management, and Regional Head of Private Banking and Asset Management for Asia. He also held senior positions in JP Morgan Asset Management’s Global Markets, Corporate Finance and Securities Services divisions.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in applied economics from the University Faculties Saint Ignatius Antwerp (UFSIA) in Belgium, an MBA from the Catholic University Leuven (KUL) in Belgium, and a master’s degree in finance from Purdue University in the United States.

Mark Weber, Acting Chief Investment Officer (CIO), ING IM

Main responsibilities: Acting CIO of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia. Mark chairs the Global Investment Leadership Team.
Previous work experience: Mark was appointed Acting Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of ING IM in December 2011. Prior to that, he was a member of the ING IM Management Committee of ING IM US, responsible for investment services, structured assets and solutions and the senior bank loan investment group. Mark joined ING IM in 2002 as Global Head of Investment Services and Marketing, having previously served in that capacity at Barings Asset Management, a former ING affiliate, since 1998. From 1984 until 1997, he worked for Banque Paribas Group in various international roles, including co-head of institutional asset management.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from Yale University (magna cum laude) and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia Law School.

Bob van Overbeek, Head of Technology & Operations, ING IM

Main responsibilities: Head of Technology & Operations of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia.
Previous work experience: Bob was appointed Head of Technology & Operations in November 2011. Prior to this he was Chief Technology Officer for ING IM Europe. Before coming to ING IM, Bob was the Global Head of Investments IT for Fortis Investments. Prior to that, he held several senior leadership positions in IT and Operations at ABN AMRO Asset Management, including Global Front Office IT Program Manager and Deputy Global Chief Operating Officer. He led the integration of IT in the wake of the merger between ABN AMRO Asset Management and Fortis Investments in 2007/2008. Earlier in his career, Bob was also a principal consultant with Capco, a global business and technology consultancy for the financial services industry, and a senior consultant with IBM Global Services.
Education: Master’s degree in applied economics from UFSIA (University of Antwerp) and an MBA (honors) from the University of Brussels.

Satish Bapat, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), ING IM

Previous work experience: Satish was appointed CFO of ING IM in 2010. Prior to joining ING, he held various senior finance positions in the financial services industry. Among others, he was Head of Global Finance at ABN AMRO Asset Management and Head of Global Finance for Robeco Asset Management. Satish began his accounting and auditing career in 1994 with Deloitte & Touche in the United States and led major audit, M&A and IPO transactions at companies from a variety of industries, including Royal Ahold, John Deere, Rockwell International, Comcast and H.J. Heinz.
Education: MBA from Temple University (Philadelphia) and a certified public accountant (CPA) for the state of Pennsylvania.

Caroline Baker, Global Head of Human Resources, ING IM

Main responsibilities: Global Head of Human Resources of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia.
Previous work experience: Caroline was appointed to her current role in 2009. Prior to joining ING in 2009, she was Executive Director of Human Resources for Hermes Fund Managers, in the UK. In 2001, she was appointed Global Head of Human Resources at ABN AMRO Asset Management. Prior to ABN AMRO she was a senior HR executive for Pareto Partners, Towers Perrin/Tillinghast and M&G Group plc. Caroline has 23 years of senior management experience in the field of HR, of which 15 years are within asset management companies.
Education: Degree in medieval history from Birmingham University.

Jelle van der Giessen, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Insurance, ING IM

Main responsibilities: CIO Insurance of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia. As a member of the Global Investment Leadership Team, Jelle focuses on a variety of boutiques including Emerging Market Debt, several Equity boutiques, Structured Products and he is responsible for the global coordination of Proprietary ING Insurance Account and further developing ING IM’s global investment engine into a multi-boutique structure.
Previous work experience: Jelle joined the International Management Committee in December 2011 as CIO Insurance, responsible for all General Account assets internationally. He was appointed Chief Investment Officer of ING IM Europe in September 2010. He joined ING IM from Nationale Nederlanden (NN), where he was the Chief Portfolio Manager for ING Insurance Benelux (since Q4 2007) and a member of the NN Board. Jelle was responsible for an insurance portfolio of EUR 60 billion, working closely with several ING IM investment teams. Jelle started his career at the NMB Bank.
Education: Master’s in geology/geophysics from the University of Utrecht.

Previous work experience: Maaike was appointed to her current role in 2009. From 2005 until 2009, she was Head of Legal & Compliance at ING IM Europe. Prior to joining ING IM, Maaike was a civil law notary and partner at Van Doorne, an Amsterdam law firm. She began her career in 1994 with the Dutch law firm NautaDutilh, initially as a candidate civil law notary and from 1998 at NautaDutilh in London. She was appointed partner in 2001.
Education: Master’s degree in law from Leiden University, the Netherlands.

Martin Nijkamp, Head of Strategic Business Development & Implemented Client Solutions, ING IM

Main responsibilities: Head of Strategic Business Development & Implemented Client Solutions of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia. As a member of the Global Sales, Marketing & Products Leadership Team, Martin is responsible for developing a global plan for sales, marketing and products. He is also responsible for implementing client solutions, developing strategic partnerships and distribution channels in Europe, and expanding ING IM’s greenfield operations in Emerging Europe.
Previous work experience: Martin was appointed to his current role in November 2011. Prior to that, he was part of the ING IM Europe management committee and Managing Director Institutional Business Development with ING IM, with responsibility for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Other positions he has held within include General Manager for Europe & Emerging Markets, Portfolio Manager, and Chief International Economist. Martin was an assistant professor of macroeconomics at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.
Education: Master’s degree in macroeconomics from Groningen University, the Netherlands.

Grant Bailey, Head of Client Group Asia, ING IM

Main responsibilities: Head of Client Group Asia of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia. As a member of the Global Sales, Marketing & Products Leadership Team, Grant is responsible for developing a global plan for sales, marketing and products.
Previous work experience: Grant joined the International Management Committee August 2010 as CEO ING IM Asia and later Head of Client Group Asia in November 2011. Prior to that, he was the Regional General Manager for ING IM Asia/Pacific. Grant originally joined ING in Australia where he was the CEO of ING IM Australia from 2003 until 2007 before moving to Dubai to establish ING IM’s Greenfield investment operations in the Middle East. Before joining ING IM, Grant was with Citigroup Asset Management, where he held various senior positions including CIO and CEO for Australia and New Zealand, and Managing Director and Head of Investment for Asia Pacific based in Singapore. In the early 1990s, he was Chief Economist for Citibank Australia . Prior to that, he worked for 13 years at the Australian Treasury, including a posting in the United States.
Education: Bachelor of economics Honors degree from the University of Adelaide, Australia.

Andre van den Heuvel, Head of Client Group Europe, ING IM

Main responsibilities: Head of Client Group Europe of ING Investment Management, part of ING Insurance/IM EurAsia. As a member of the Global Sales, Marketing & Products Leadership Team, Andre is responsible for developing a global plan for sales, marketing and products.
Previous work experience: Andre was appointed to his current function in November 2011. From 2005 until 2011, he was the Head of the Institutional Business Benelux at BlackRock. Previous roles also include Head of Benelux Client Business for F&C and Head of Investment Management for Achmea Global Investors. Andre started his career in 1989 at Robeco as a fixed income portfolio manager.
Education: Master’s degree in economics from Erasmus University.
